Jill Peyton M.Ed., LPC, LMFT, NCC

Professional Biography

Jill Peyton, received her masters degree in counselor education (MEd) from The University of New Orleans after finishing her undergraduate degree requirements there. She is a nationally certified counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), as well as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. (LMFT) She completed a postgraduate internship at Our Lady of Holy Cross College, where she specialized in marriage and family therapy. She has worked extensively with couples in distress as well as families who have behavior/discipline issues with their children.

Mrs. Peyton and her husband have been married for 50 years and are the parents of 5 grown children and 11 grandchildren. Wisdom acquired through those many years, combined with her marriage and family therapy training, have prepared her thoroughly to work with couples and families who have problems communicating and/or relating to each other.

Mrs. Peyton has written two workbooks: "Love Theory and Love Therapy" that assists people in improving relationships with significant others, and "Love Therapy for Married Couples", which is designed to help couples achieve more satisfying marriages. The principles in these workbooks are learned in group sessions over a series of weekly meetings. These groups enable participants to become empowered to have better self-understanding and self-awareness, thereby gaining more control over their lives and their relationships.

Her youngest daughter, Kristen, has a developmental disorder similar to Autism, as well as a conduct disorder, and a severe speech disorder. Through her struggles to understand her daughter's disabilities and to help her achieve a better quality of life, Mrs. Peyton has attained a specialty in assisting families with members who have special needs. This has led her to develop a three-step behavior modification program. This plan is for use with "typical" youngsters as well as children who have learning disabilities, or developmental disabilities. Entitled "The 3 C's of Behavior Modification"; it equips parents and caregivers with a simple plan of action to rely on when children misbehave.

In response to the growing interest for parenting skills training she has also written "The Five R's of Moral Development". These are five principles necessary for children to learn from their parents in order to grow into socially acceptable and morally mature adults.

Mrs. Peyton is a Qualified Filial Therapy trainer, which allows her to teach parents principals of child-centered play therapy. This process enables parents to become change agents for their own children, thereby strengthening and empowering the family.
